Home Renovation

home renovation in Brooklyn, NY

OVERVIEW —

I designed and managed a home renovation of my childhood home in Brooklyn, New York. It was a multi-year project, ending in 2021. I worked directly with the lead contractor who managed a team of 10-15 construction workers and coordinated with my father, who financed the project.

GOALS —

The goal was to increase the value of the home and create a design that would appeal to potential buyers in the Park Slope area. The target buyers for this type of home in Park Slope are wealthy families, typically a couple with two kids. As the current kitchen had not been renovated since the 1980s, it was outdated, and the design was small, little to no storage. The goal was to redesign the layout and aesthetic to match what buyers were looking for.

RESPONSIBILITIES —

Managing Invoices & Financials

Designing floorplans

Overseeing the project

Material selections

Interior design application

PROCESS —

The process involved redesigning the floorplan, understanding engineering restraints, re-routing plumbing, getting permits, removing old appliances, ripping out floorboards and walls, and having your neighbors hate you.

THE BEFORE —

The before shows the previous layout of the kitchen being tucked away in a small corner without any counter space.
